Domestic Partnerships:

California has laws concerning the formation and termination of Domestic Partnerships.  These laws also define the rights and responsibilities of registered domestic partners.

The dissolution of a Domestic Partnership is very similar to a divorce or legal separation proceeding, as orders regarding partner support, child support and property division can be made.  However, there are unique tax implications that arise in the dissolution of domestic partnerships that are not present in divorce or legal separation cases.  It is therefore, extremely important that a person going through the dissolution of a domestic partnership seeks competent legal representation who will work closely with tax professionals to competently address such concerns.

At FERNANDEZ and FERNANDEZ, we are constantly updating our knowledge of this ever-evolving body of law by attendance at special courses and continuing education classes.  We are one of the few law firms on the Central Coast who have counseled and represented people going through the dissolution of a domestic partnership.
